To answer generally, I do not say there are no parts of the Bible that are metaphorical, though I may have made it sound like that. It can be very obvious which parts are metaphorical and just because something has a metaphorical significance does not mean it is not also a historical event.
I agree with 3dJelly and I do not discount the metaphorical significance of Biblical events. Jonah, was a real history with metaphorical significance. Enough of this, I know you think I am the one who is silly.
:(
But really we should stay with the Book of 1st John. :)
We already have a lengthy discussion on this topic.
Defending Biblical Literalism
does anyone have anything more to say about this passage (1John 1:1) before going on? |

The reality of the man as well as the first person testimony of the things that that happened testify to Johns insight into the character of Jesus and the meaning of his life. |

I hope no one minds if I go on to 1 John 1:5-7 (New International Version)
5This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. 6If we claim to have fellowship with him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth. 7But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.
If we walk in darkness we are not living by the truth, and the blood of Jesus does not cleanse us from sin.
Liars do not enter heaven. Revelation 21:8 (New International Version) |
