The sins that we are still prone to after salvation affects our walk with God, our fellowship with Him. Yet the fact that we cannot live in this world without still sinning, that only proves why we needed the perfect man-God Himself to atone for our sins. No human can ever ever atone for his/her own sins. It took God Himself to do that and that is the simple gospel; that in His love and mercy He provided a way for our redemption. We do not deserve it, yet He who was without sin took on all our sins unto himself to save us, praise His name.
Upon salvation we are justified. In Christian theology, justification is God's act of declaring or making a sinner righteous before God.
As Lesoldham states in post 88) "because of this righteousness that dwells in us we desire to do good." The term is sanctification, we Christians are in a continuing state of sanctification after the justification that we received from a loving and merciful God. We are trying to live more and more for Him out of gratitude, not in trying to maintain a salvation that we cannot obtain on our own.
Yes sin matters a great deal after salvation. The bible tells us to not grieve the Holy Spirit by our actions. We may now be in God's family by salvation. But we do not wish to be the troublesome black sheep of the good shepherds family. We will be chastised in this life for sins after salvation. We will be judged for our actions, good & bad, at judgment day. But our salvation is secure because of God's mercy and love, amazing grace indeed... |

Because if we are already a Christian, and we do sin, we separate ourself from God. This is where I put forth that salvation and the simple Gospel is the life that we live and the road of salvation is life long. How can we say we love God, are saved and sin. How do you reconcile with Him.
I read your justification as just putting on a new clean shirt while without take a full bath, and that is not justification. I do agree that we are in a continuous state of sanctification just as we are in a continuous road to salvation.
I don't agree we can be in a family if we continue to hurt it. Sin does that. So there must be a different option. |

I would liken the kingdom of God to a race. The rules of the race are
1. You must enter the race in the right manor as prescribed in the Bible and only as prescribed in the Bible not as dictated by Preachers.
2. You must run the race as prescribed in the Bible and only as prescribed in the Bible.
3. No short cuts. If you take a short cut it never leads back to the right way. If you die on a short cut you did not finish the race.
4. If you run on the track but you did not enter the race properly you will be disqualified. |

Good works and following his commandments to love God with our whole heart & soul and our neighbor as ourselves is only an indication of our salvation, but is not what saves us lest any man boast of his works.
1John 1:6 If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:
1John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
1John 1:8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
1John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
1John 1:10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
1John 2:1 My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:
1John 2:2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.
1John 2:3 And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.
1John 2:4He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
1John 2:5 But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.
1John 2:6 He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.
Anyone up for a full discussion on the 1st book of John in a separate thread next week? |

| Sponsor | usmjam | Oct 15, 2007 10:11am | 97) You ought to summarize as simply as you can the gospel per your denomination's teachings.
More discussion ought to be brought back to perhaps the What Does it take to be "Saved"? thread in the Catholic-EvangelicalTalk group since here its come down to the opposite teachings from Catholicism and non-Catholic Christians. I hope more will join that group, from both sides. The differences are sometimes very sharp between our beliefs and should be explored more. |

Yet if you read them all again, we were trying to decide what living the simple gospel means. As the discussion progressed, the meaning changed. So I just wanted to get straight were we are now... |
