There were 52 generations between Abraham and Jesus ("Thus there were fourteen generations in all from Abraham to David, fourteen from David to the exile to Babylon, and fourteen from the exile to the Christ." Matthew 1:17). Assuming for argument's sake that the average age a father begat a son to be about 25 years old, you get 52*25 = 1300. Add 2007 years to that, and you get the following simple equation:
1946 years + 1300 years + 2007 years = 5253 years = age of humanity according to the Bible |

There could also be slightly different answer based on how old one sets average generation time between Abraham and Jesus. Any reasonable change in these parameters would produce changes in hundreds of years, not tens of thousands of years as would be required to match the age of humanity as determined by science (~70,000 years). |

I didn't see that part before entering my previous post. As you would seem to suggest, this does not resolve the contradiction between Genesis and science.
Thus, for reasons explained over the past 40 posts, anyone who believes that Genesis is the word of God must believe that humanity is tens of thousands of years younger than it actually is. |

My dates 2008 + 1995 + 2007 = 6010
I think it is safe to say that the Bible gives a date of approximately 6000 years for humanity. |
